Grant held the annual Club Rush on Wednesday, September 13th, 2023, where students were given the opportunity to represent their clubs during lunch. Grant’s clubs highlight the importance of our school community, building small families as students form bonds through common interests. With their eye-catching posters, clubs were able to grab the attention of several students to promote their clubs, informing students of the club’s purpose and responsibilities.

Clubs are an excellent opportunity for everyone, extrovert or introvert, to express their ideas while also strengthening the school community. When asked about the importance of student participation in clubs, Grant’s principal, Mrs. Mcmurrin replies, “It’s good for students to feel involved, especially students who are more shy. Going to clubs can be a great way to meet people. The school is very big but clubs help make it feel a lot smaller.” She was ecstatic to see the large groups gathering at different clubs, with a rise of the amount of students interested in being more involved with our school clubs.

Additionally, Coach Yang and Ms. Wright, leaders of Grant ASB, both agreed that although being active in our Grant community is important, clubs are just overall exciting and keep the student life in Grant lively. Coach Yang commented that, “Clubs also keep you active within the school community and instills school pride, plus they’re fun!”

Club Rush informed students of not only older clubs, but a few newer ones as well such as Cinema Club, Feminist Club, and Thrift and Trade Club. Some may take the purpose of cinema for granted; Cinema Club keeps film alive as they meet to remember the importance of cinema in relation to our everyday school subjects! “Through cinema we can strengthen our understanding of plot and concepts in English” said Luis Ramirez, the creator of Cinema Club. Moving forward, Mrs. Ortega, the teacher representative of Feminist Club, commented that, “The members have shown motivation in starting the conversation of what feminism is”. Feminism club consists of passionate members who work towards spreading awareness of issues women face. Furthermore, according to a club member, Betty Polena, Thrift and Trade Club not only allows students to express their creativity through clothing, but also donates the clothing that doesn’t get traded or accepted by their club members to our local Goodwill to ensure that no clothing item is wasted.

To sum up, Club Rush demonstrates the importance of clubs to both individuals and our school and local neighborhoods as a whole. Our clubs are amazing opportunities for our students to socialize and grow closer as a tight-knit community. These clubs will not only benefit current students, but also build a foundation when it comes to developing bonds with people in new environments.
