November 5, 2024

This semester the girls varsity volleyball season hit off with a winning streak of fifteen, with the Lancers placing first in the East Valley League. With the Lady Lancers Volleyball team consisting of a majority of seniors, three juniors, one freshman, and a sophomore, the team has had twenty-eight games this season and have won twenty-two of them with a winning percentage of 78%. Captains Maliyah Winston and Jasmin Silva help carry the team along with support from Ahkebalon Campbell who averages five kills every game.

Volleyball consists of many skills like serving the ball over the net, passing, setting, blocking, and hitting to achieve what they call “kills”. All of these girls put in the hard work and effort into the team to win all of these games. The seniors, Shira Shoshan, Angelina Timonina, August Hutchinson, Kaia Hummel, and Daniella Diaz have a few more games until their senior night on October 17th against Arleta High School.

Head coach, Arthur Yang, and assistant coaches, Jon Manocchio and Sona Ghzarayan have coached the team during this winning streak. Yang, who is also the head coach of the Boys Varsity Volleyball team became Division 2 Champions in 2024.

In a recent game against North Hollywood High School, the main starting six players were Shira Shoshan as libero, Maliyah Winston and August Hutchinson as outside hitters, Diana Nkruryan and Ahkebalon Campbell as middle blockers, Jasmin Silva as setter, Kaia Hummel as front row opposite, and Anna Arakelyan as back row opposite.

The Lady Lancers are scheduled to play Division 1 Semifinals against University High School on October 5, 2024. If you have not seen these girls play you need stop by the gym and watch them play!
