Proud to Be A Lady Lancer

The Grant Lady Lancers Basketball team has been having a great season over the past month with an overall record of 13 wins and 8 losses and in league games 7 wins and 4 losses. The Lady Lancers coaches, Rashad Winston and Abraham Perez, teach these girls how to succeed to become stronger and how to improve each upcoming match. There have been many breathtaking games that they have played just like North Hollywood, Poly, and especially Monroe. 

When the Lady Lancers opposed the North Hollywood Huskies at Grant’s gym the Junior Varsity team lost by 23 points and the score was 27-50. Meanwhile our Lady Lancers Varsity team won by 7 points and the score was 33-26. The captains on the Junior Varsity team are led by Esmeralda Lopez and Elizabeth Mata while the Varsity team is led by Anthonella Bitoka, Valeria Vega, and Daniela Rivas-Gomez. During all four quarters, the Lady Lancers were up by more than five points each time.

 When playing North Hollywood High School away, Varsity Lady Lancers won once again 44-28 with Valeria Vega scoring 26 points and getting 13 rebounds, Anthonella Bitoka scoring 6 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals, and Alani Kyles scoring 4 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals. Looking at other games like Poly and Monroe the Lady Lancers played amazingly throughout them all. When playing against the Monroe Vikings they scored 100 points and Monroe only scored 7. Also, when the Lady Lancers played against Poly in their home gym the score was 40 to 21 and Valeria Vega scored 16 points and Alani Kyles scored 13 points.

Now looking forward to senior night for the seven amazing seniors on the team, they once again played the Poly Parrots and won 36 to 21. During this game Anthonella Bitoka scored 11 points, Daniela Rivas and Alani Kyles both scored 6, and Steph Venture scored 3 points. The seniors that were celebrated that night were Valeria Vega, Daniela Rivas-Gomez, Elizabeth Mata, Iman Boussahoul, Sofia Aguierre-Rojas, Natalie Quinones, and Emily Roque-Galvan. They are soon to be moving up to playoffs and we will watch them carry each other as a team to hopefully take home the win.
